Wind Rebates

MVEA is pleased to announce that it has been selected by the Governor’s Energy Office (GEO) to administer its Small Wind Rebate Program in MVEA’s territory.
   The Small Wind Rebate Program was created by the GEO in response to the growing demand for renewable energy initiatives to allow homeowners and businesses to harness Colorado’s abundant wind resources. The program is designed to extend rebates for Small Wind technologies to Colorado residents and businesses throughout the state. The GEO provides matching grants to program partners with the goal of developing local Small Wind rebate programs. By partnering with cities, utilities and non-profit organizations through a matching grant program, the funding for rebates is effectively doubled.
   Starting in early 2009, MVEA members that invest in Small Wind in MVEA’s territory may be eligible for rebates as part of the program. By providing matching funds to a $25,000 grant from the GEO, MVEA will provide rebates for the installation of Small Wind. The rebates will allow customers to install systems at considerable savings.
   With a combination of the GEO rebates and tax credits, Colorado home and business owners can save on Small Wind installations. In addition to these savings, these systems can save on energy costs. The program also helps Colorado achieve its Climate Action Plan carbon reduction goals and increase Colorado’s energy independence.
   MVEA will begin accepting rebate applications on July 1, 2009. The application will be reviewed and upon approval, MVEA will provide members with a Rebate Reservation by random selection. All applications must be received by July 16, 2009 to be entered into the random selection. The selection for Rebate Reservation will be made on July 20, 2009. Members will have 90 days from the date of notification to complete the installation process.

Small Wind Incentive Program Details

$25,000 maximum grant from GEO - $25,000 maximum matching grant from MVEA - A program total of $50,000 in rebates will be distributed by MVEA
Rebates will be paid for up to 10 kW of installed DC capacity per installation
Incentive will be $1/Watt DC from MVEA and $1/Watt DC from GEO, totaling $2/watt
Rebates will not exceed 50% of the total cost of the project, or $10,000
Wind systems must be grid-tied and net metered by MVEA. Stand alone systems are not eligible
Eligibility for the rebate will require demonstration that all cost effective energy efficiency measures have been implemented in order to obtain the highest level of energy performance
All systems shall have a minimum 5 year warranty required on major system components, with the exception of batteries, for which a minimum 2 year warranty is required
Inverters will be UL approved

How to Participate and Installation Requirements

Rebates for small wind systems installed after July 20, 2009
Select a Small Wind installer and obtain a system design and quote. (Choosing from 2-3 quotes is recommended)
Submit the Interconnection Information Request and the system design and quote to MVEA.
All Small Wind systems must be grid-tied and net-metered (in accordance with MVEA’s Interconnection Policy)
Only new equipment qualifies
If you are selected, you will receive a "rebate reservation" from MVEA
You will have 90 days from your rebate reservation date to complete the system installation
Submit final electrical inspection documentation along with required documents, per the Interconnection Policy, to MVEA once the installation is complete
Rebates will be processed and issued within 6-8 weeks after completion
