Duane B. Steinke
District: District 3 Background: Steinke was born in Hope, ND, and grew up in Minnesota. He remembers when REA brought electricity to their farm in the early 1940's. Steinke is a retired Air Force officer and held both Pilot and Navigator ratings as well as staff positions in Command and Control and Operations Plans and Programming. Subsequent to retirement from the Air Force, Steinke worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Colorado Springs, at the Air Force Academy and in Monument. Steinke and his wife, Kathlyn, live in the Arrowwood Subdivision near Monument. They have two daughters, a son, eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchild.. Memberships/Community Service: Past member of Monument-Palmer Lake Kiwanis and Black Forest Lutheran Church. He has served on several School District 38 committees. Board Experience: Past president and current member of MVEA Board of Directors. Currently serving on the Education, Policy, Wage & Salary, Budget, adn Audit committees. Steinke has taken numerous electric utility courses, including all those required for the Rural Electric Director Certification and the Credentialed Cooperative curriculum. Past president, vice-president, and secretary/treasurer and one of four Colorado Directors serving on the 36 person board of Mid-West Electric Consumers Association; former MVEA delegate to Basin Electric Power Cooperative; past president and board member of Arrowwood Improvement Association; past president of Monument-Palmer Lake Kiwanis (recipient of the Distinguished President award), and past chairman and current council member of Black Forest Lutheran Church. Statement of Position: "I believe I have
the necessary expertise (over 25 hours of formal classroom studies
in the electric utility field) and experience serving on the MVEA board of directors to help direct MVEA into the
future. The electric utility industry is rapidly changing and as
a member of the Board, I have the time, energy and vision to keep
MVEA moving forward. |
