Recipes2007 Recipes January 2007Super Bowl is just around the corner! Do you have your party planned? Here is a great recipe to serve to your guests and the best part - it can be made ahead of time! Bread Pot Fondue 1 firm, round loaf of bread ( 1 1/2 pounds, or 8 to 10 inches in diameter) Filling: 2 cups mild cheddar cheese, shredded 2 (3 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened 1 1/2 cups sour cream 1 cup ham, cooked and diced 1/2 cup green onions, chopped 1 (4 ounce) can green chilies, chopped 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce Assorted raw vegetables, cubed bread and crackers for dipping. Slice off top of bread loaf, reserving top. Hollow out inside of loaf with small paring knife, leaving 1/2 inch shell. Cut the removed bread into 1 inch cubes to serve later. For filling, combine cheeses and sour cream in bowl: stir in remaining ingredients. Spoon filling into hollowed loaf; replace top. Wrap loaf tightly with several layers of heavy-duty aluminum foil; set on cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 70 minutes or until filling is heated through. Remove loaf from oven and unwrap. Place on a platter and serve with fresh vegetables, cubed bread and crackers. February 2007 Ginger Bromley of Monument sent us this great dish for getting home late from work and not wanting to cook. Cheesy spaghetti 1 large jar Thick and Chunky Garden spaghetti sauce 1 ¼ pound hamburger Salt to taste Pepper to taste 5 helpings cooked spaghetti 2 cups mozzarella cheese 2 cups cheddar cheese Brown hamburger with salt and pepper. Mix with spaghetti sauce. In a deep casserole dish, layer hamburger mixture, spaghetti, cheeses and repeat twice reserving enough sauce to put on top. Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 20 minutes or until heated through and cheeses are melted. March 2007 This recipe was submitted in April 1980 by Mary Lou Warren. It is in the MVEA 65th anniversary cookbook, "Watt's Cooking?" Fruit Filled Coffee Cake 2 c. sifted flour 2 tsp. baking powder 1/4 tsp. salt 1/2 c. butter 1 egg 1 32 oz. can pie filling (cherry, apple, pineapple) 1 c. flour 1 c. sugar 1/2 c. butter Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Cut in butter as for pie crust. Break egg into measuring cup and add enough milk to make 1 cup liquid. Beat egg into milk. Add to flour mixture and mix well. Spread into jelly roll pan 15 x 10 inches. Cover with pie filling. Sift together the cup of flour and the cup of sugar. Cut in butter. Sprinkle over filling. Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes. Then reduce heat to 350 degrees and bake 20 minutes more or until topping is golden brown. Makes 12 to 16 servings. June 2007 Roberta Charles of Calhan sent us the following recipe and writes, “It's very good with pork!” Sounds like something you could have for a barbeque. Hot Pepper Jelly 4 Bell Peppers 8 Hot Peppers 1 ½ cups apple cider vinegar 6 cups sugar 1 bottle Serto Chop peppers in blender. Put in a medium pan and add apple cider vinegar and sugar. Bring to a boil and boil for 10 minutes. Add the bottle of Serto and boil for 1 minute more. Pour into jelly jars. August 2007BBQ Pork Recipe 5-6 pounds country style pork ribs 1 onion 1 green pepper (or combination of red, yellow and green) 3 cloves of garlic 1 bay leaf Salt and pepper 1 and one-fourth cup water ¾ cup ketchup ¼ cup barbecue sauce 2 tablespoons brown sugar Cut most of the visible fat off of the ribs. If too much fat is left on the meat, the pork dish will be too greasy. Cut meat in about 2-inch size cubes. Cut up onion, pepper and garlic. Add to pork. In a separate bowl, mix water, ketchup, barbecue sauce, brown sugar, salt and pepper together. Put pork mixture in a large pot or crock pot. Pour sauce over it. Cook slowly for about 6 hours. Adjust seasonings to your taste. October 2007

Sweet Potatoes with Rosemary 1 pound sweet pototoes or yams, scrubbed and cut into ½ inch think slices 2 ½ tablespoons olive oil ½ teaspoon dried rosemary or 1 tablespoon of fresh, chopped rosemary Pepper to taste. Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Combine all ingredients in a large baking dish. Bake 45 minutes, stirring occasionally, or until potatoes are tender and crusty.

Cheesy Corn 3 – 16 ounce packages frozen corn 8 ounce package cream cheese, cubed ¼ cup butter, cubed 3 Tablespoons water 3 Tablespoons milk 2 Tablespoons sugar 6 slices American cheese, cut into squares Combine all ingredients in a slow cooker. Mix well. Cover. Cook on low for 4 hours or until heated through and the cheese is melted.

Danish Kringle 1 cup melted shortening 1 cup warm milk ¼ cup warm water 2 eggs ½ cup sugar 1 teaspoon salt 1 package yeast Brown sugar Cinnamon Ground nuts (we use walnuts) Dissolve yeast in ¼ cup warm water. Add shortening and warm milk. Add eggs, sugar and salt. Add 4 cups of flour. Blend well, cover and let stand in the refrigerator overnight. Divide in 4 equal parts. Roll out each piece in an oblong and brush with melted butter. Sprinkle a generous amount of brown sugar, cinnamon and ground nuts on each piece and press the nuts lightly into the dough until firmly set. Fold each piece into thirds and press ends tight. Roll lightly again and place on a greased cookie sheet. Let rise 2 hours. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes and then at 250 degrees until lightly brown, about 25 minutes.
